Sim card advice

Hi all,

Is it possible to do the following:

I have an existing Next G phone and existing Next G SIM card.
I have a new 4G phone and new SIM card. (same number)

All my phone contacts are on the old SIM card.
My new phone has been activated and sees all my
contacts on the old SIM card when I install it.

My new phone does not get past a SIM PIN when I put the new one in.
Telstra say the new sim has not been activated.
They also say once it is activated the old contacts will be lost forever
and suggest copying the contacts off the old sim and into new phone memory.

But what I want to do is this:
Use my old phone with it's old SIm as a standby emergency phone
for things like going fishing.
I don't want to use an expensive 4G phone (with it's new SIM) for
that.

As I understand it, if I did this I would turn off the new phone, then turn on the old one,
and it should still be able to take calls/make calls.

Have I got this all right?

Steve

Steve, If you do a search on evilbay or dealextreme you will find there is an adapter so you can use the newer micro-sims in the older NextG phones.
That way you would just swap the one (newer) sim from phone to phone I don't think you have any other option but I may stand corrected.

Steve, they disable the old SIM when they activate the new one, but you should still be able to get the numbers off it.

Do you have a computer app to manage the old phone? You should be able to import the numbers to your address book. Then with the new phone's management app you should be able to export them into that phone and write them to the SIM.

If you can get an adapter for the micro-SIM and then drop the phone overboard, will you remember to back up the data first?

Thanks John, the new sim looks the same physical size as the old sim.
The old one worked in the new phone, it is in there now, contacts visible,
can make calls, full functionality of the 4G phone.
The sim swap option sounds the best option , yeah , but if I lose it
overboard I'm up for the wait of another SIM...

Andrew, yep I have the apps needed to manage contacts on both phones.
So my question I suppose is, will the old SIM work once the new SIM is activated...you said nope, so I guess I gotta go with John's
option above for using the old one as the emergency.
Thanks guys.

Steve
