Any good DSLR for under $550

Hi everyone,

My brother is going on a trip overseas and was wondering if there was a descent DSLR for imaging as I recomended a DSLR after hearing all the positive things that have been said on iceinspace about DSLR's.

The camera will be mainly used for scenic landscape shots. My brother would like a camera with a wide FOV and an ability to possibly make panoramic shots.

I did some research and found the Nikon D3100 DSLR which seems ok although its $600.

Also what is the difference from a single lens kit to a twin lens kit?

Thanks in advance
regards Orestis

The Canon 1100D is probably worth looking at.

DP Review

Currently $379 at JB Hifi, Body Only.
~$750 for one in a twin lens kit.

Edit, sorry, missed the last question.
Single lens v twin lens kits simply means either one lens or two lenses included with the camera body.

Kits lenses aren't typically the best quality and aren't designed tocapture fast action. They're fine for happy snaps, though.

In a Canon twin lens kit, you'll typically get an 18-55mm lens (widefield zoom) and a 55-200mm or 55-250mm telephoto zoom.
