Hi Roger, You raise some good points there
Unfortunately not many of the many talented app writers will write a nice app for an OS that has only got around 5% market share, thats just economics, despite the fact macs have always been superior at every stage through history!
But that also means all the whizz kid hackers and virus writers out for glory go for the majority system, be that windows of course.
Steve Jobs seems to have deliberately (in fact sometimes I think they like being a snooty minority os?) stifled macs being mainstream in its history, a few times.
The main impediment has been that apple wont licence out to clone makers (although there was a single apple clone maker briefly years ago cant remember what it was called now) Ever notice how much a top of the line 'you beaut' dinky di IBM desktop costs? - its the same as an equivalent mac. I dare say not many people have PC's that arent clones? thats why they are traditionally cheaper of course
The second big reason they arent the dominant os, is because Jobs wanted nothing much to do with games en masse, when they took off in the 90's -
I think he is quoted? as saying he didnt want people to think of his puters as toys - something along those lines anyway - woops!
And they are two obvious reasons I can think of why PC's are the dominant personal computer over the years and even today
Do you enjoy your firewire 1 and 2 and USB 1 an 2 connections on your PC's, what do you think of them? well you can thank apple for those if you dont mind, thats were they came from - in fact a mate suspects that USB 2 is just the old firewire 1, same top speed, very suspicious - remarketed for some reason?
anyway I digress
The apples with the dual core intel chips came on the market in jan this year
Motorala used to make the powermacs (powerpc) chips in conjunction with IBM I think - now its only IBM only that make the current G5 chips for some reason.
The dual core INTEL chips in the new seperate line of macs (the IBM made powermac chips are to be phased out by the end of 2007 I believe)
are similar to the new dual core INTEL PC chips, but are a chip specially designed to mac specs for apple, so they are not the exactly the same - by the way I have now read more reviews of XP on the intel macs now, and its official: you now have to buy a new fast intel mac to have the fastest most powerful 'PC' available in the consumer range in the world - that makes this old mac fans heart gloat ..I mean.. glow with pride
The two OS's would be partitioned on the hardrive (and with RAID these days thats a lot of hardrive eh :-) ) so am not sure re XP corrupting the OSX side of the deal - different language, cant see how it could - anyway thats easy just dont surf the net or do emails, online banking with the XP side, should be simple. I can click on virus's in my email or whatever now and nothing happens -
and after OS 10 (X) came out in late 2001 you could use left and right button PC mouses - all the same functions as in windows, scroll ect. but your right we were famously double clickers prior to that - although using the command key while clicking is basically the same thing - so we did have it.
And unfortunately all new macs still come with those stupid mouses new I think - much to the amusement of everybody - he is very quirky old mr Jobs, strange sense of humour? i sometimes think they arent very interested in the home puter market to tell you the truth - just the corporate world ... gggrrrr
you just have to buy your own PC mouse
My PC optical logitech mouse I bought from officeworks a long time ago has left and right (including double click on the left ) scroll wheel, - and several other side buttons that all work very well in games just like on a PC

Cheers
