Venus Apr 08 - IR & UV (+ improved image)

Here's a Venus in synthetic colour assembled from IR, G, and UV channels taken around 6pm this evening.

High level seeing was OK, but the low level atmosphere was quite wobbly. There was some banding visible in the UV live feed, which translated to some detail in the final stack. Transparency was poor, as Venus is so low in the sky, even this early in the evening. I was down to 45% histogram at 15 fps in UV.

C11 + Custom Scientific IR & UV, Orion G filters + Televue 3x Barlow + DMK21AU04.AS camera.

-Ivan

P.S. Added second image with improved processing.

Thanks Ray.

This sort of imaging seems to be a bit more popular in the US and Europe, but there don't seem to be many people showing UV Venus images on this forum, so I'm pleased to post.

Nice work Ivan. Ordinarily I'd be posting this sort of work up too but the filter problem + my obs positioning makes it basically impossible.

Thanks for the view.

Thanks John. I have some problems with my obs positioning too, so know what you mean.

BTW, I continued to play around with the stacking, and found that using more APs (39 vs 17) and stacking more frames (3000 vs 2000) gave a much smoother UV channel. I've added the second image to the original post, I think it is an improvement.

Another nice Venus image there. What is the difference in processing between the two images?

I mentioned this a few posts back: I'm using Autostakkert!2 (isn't everyone?) and still getting a feel for what to feed it to get the best results.
