It reminds me a little of when we used to have to lug a PC, Monitor and a full size keyboard out into the field when observing. Then we had large laptops, small laptops now some of us use the little hand held, what are they called? IPODS or whatever?

Hi Ken,

This earlier post may interest you -
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...65&postcount=6

It includes a link to a January 2011 article that appeared in the Institute of
Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Spectrum Magazine which in turn
includes the story of how Steven Sasson, a young electrical engineer at Kodak,
was given as one of his first assignments to check out a new 100 x 100 pixel CCD
chip developed by Fairchild Semiconductor.

The article includes a picture of Sasson posing with the camera and a picture
of the inside of the camera with its circuit boards unfolded.

See

This patent, filed May 20 1977 by Lloyd and Sasson on behalf of Kodak, may
also be of interest -

Quite an interesting read and fascinating to see how far the technology has developed.

Sorry Ken - is that image meant to be legible, or was there a link to an article? Do you have a better scan or photo?

Thank you for pointing out the bad quality Chris.
I knew it was bad. I had 3 goes of uo-loading the file because the file was too big. Small enough, was not good enough.
Try this one.

Just worked out why the file was so big. The reason is the white lettering. The black background makes for a large file, of course.
