Wait for it ...Yes .. 9inch f/18 Refractors.

I was browsing Cloudy Nights today and came across these 9 inch / f18 Refractors.

A definite Planet Killer..... would love to have a look with one of these.

Credit to the original poster of these photo's.

Planet killer

You'd certain have to love narrow-field viewing. By my calcs your widest fov would be 40 arc minutes. A 20mm ep is 200x and a 15mm is already 270x.

Plant killer.

Yes, that's exactly what this is.

Impossible to mount... so you might as well beat weeds to death with it.

Why anyone would make a F18 refractor these days is beyond me.

No. Not snobbish ..in the same way you could make a balsa-wood raft and cross the south pacific... why?

High index glasses make extremely long focal lengths an anachronism.

My old club had a 6" f12 behemoth. might *still* have it...

My AP155 runs rings around it: much easier to mount and better corrected to boot.

Mechanical centration of 9" F18 optics I strongly suspect is an approximation at best.
