Would you be worried?

If your neighbour was behaving like this?

I bought a short-ish focal ratio refractor to muck around with earlier this year, but haven't had a chance to play with it at all between work and weather.

Anyway, tonight I've been messing about with MPCC/DSLR/adaptors etc and noticed there were breaks in the clouds. The back yard is messy and overgrown, so I pulled down the screens over our bathroom window (easily accessible and views of the sky) and had a gawk at Mt Cootha and a couple of bright stars. The refractor is poking out the window like an enormous telephoto (black at that....). My daughter wanders in out of bed and says "Dad, why are you in the bath with your telescope?". Then I realise the (new) next door neighbour has put the bin out and is pacing around outside his house and probably witnessed/heard all this......

Maybe I should have stuck my head out the window with scope in hand and waved, rather than scooting back inside.

Clean up your yard and invite your new neighbor around for a viewing session.

Well right now, I have 2 big choppers doing sweeps in a grid pattern with lights on (no joke) & so my only concern is they are in the wrong spot, but I know where the man is that you are searching for!

Egads! I thought I was in enough trouble before - I'm not so sure about the advice I'm getting from IIS tonight!

Yes, I usually own up to surrounding neighbours that if they hear noises at 2am in our back yard not to panick. Just haven't had a chance to catch up with people on that side yet.
I'll just blame the rain when I do catch up - known to drive astronomers looney....

When you introduce yourself, don't forget to ask them to leave their outside lights off.

After what they heard your daughter say, they'll think you are a nutter and leave their lights off in case you flip out and attack them

I don't think I better wear high heels around there in case I put dints in his floor. Showing him a view through the scope much better plan.

There's always the possibility he didn't notice the scope hanging out our top storey window - I think plausable denial is still a good option

Yes, I'm only being silly of course Henry. Always best plan to show people what they're missing in the sky.
