Great Nebula M42 - 2nd attempt

Hi everyone,

here's my 2nd attempt at processing the image of the Great Nebula in Orion (M42) with the modified Canon 300D. I did the image last week between Twilight and Moon rise and post it at http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ead.php?t=8608

The image is composed from 6 x 3 minute exposures (18-minutes total) using ISO-200, on the 12-inch f/5 telescope with the Baader Coma Corrector. The images are dark-subtracted, flat-fielded and bias adjusted.

The core area of the nebula is composed from 3 x 15 second exposures used to mask out the over-exposed core in the deeper image.

Images were processed with IRIS with final adjustments in Photoshop and Noiseware CE.

There is a higher resolution image here http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/ngc1976c.html

Paul,

This is spectacular. Your focus, composition, framing and processing is perfect.

It took me a good ten minutes to peel my eyes away from your image to write this reply.

Amazing.

Well done.

Regards,
Humayun

Gee the bar has been raised with M42 Paul, the intricate outer detail is striking, yet the bright inner detail so well preserved. Well done, both in the taking and the processing. The modified 300D is going really well
