The Horsehead Nebula (B33) and IC434

Hi everyone,

Here's an image I did last night of the Horsehead Nebula. The image is composed from 13 x 4-minute exposures @ ISO400 with my Hα/IR enabled Canon 300D on the 12-inch telescope with the Baader Coma Corrector. Hand-guided with the 4.5" f/18 guidescope.

Image was processed in IRIS, Photoshop and Noiseware.

Higher Resolution Images are
here http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/Horsehead%20Nebula.html
and here http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/Horsehead%20Nebula2.html

Best regards to everyone.
Paul Mayo

Excellent shot of a dufficult subject, Paul!

Very reminiscent of the cover shot of David Malin's "A Celebration of Colour in Astronomy"...

Hello Al,

Thanks for your comments. Gee, I didn't know about David Malin's "A Celebration of Colour in Astronomy" book. Is that a recent publishment ?

Hi Alex,

thanks for sending comments on many of the photos I've done. Believe it or not, this image of the Horsehead, actually saw me holding a tarp over the telescope while a quick shower sprinkled light rain into the observatory. There were lots of fast moving clouds, one minute the sky 60% cloudy then a little while later nearly no cloud at all, but in the end it clouded almost totally.

cheers
Paul

Paul,

Mate, you just keep churning them out.

Those two images are such wonderful compositions.

My hat off to you.

Well done.

Regards,
Humayun

Wow, excellent shot, Paul. That certainly vindicates both the Ha enabling of your 300D and the 12 inch telescope. The colour looks very accurate and does indeed look like a Malin photograph With you getting shots like this I cant wait till the milky way stuff like Lagoon and Triffid comes up in a few months and you image them.
