I can see clearly now, the trees have gone

Hi guys,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

Before you get excited, it is not as good as you think. When I was out the other night I noticed that there were a lot of trees in the south that were getting in the road, then I realized they were the tops of my own trees…oops! So last night when I got home I took to them with the lopper. I cut back the branches that had shot out up to 20 feet into the air and brought them all back to a metre or so above the fence to block out light from the neighbour. One of the neighbours trees is about in line with their roof line, as seen from where I setup, with the exception of one branch that sticks up several feet above. So I thought I would just have to lop one branch. I hooked the lopper around the branch but I couldn’t get it to cut, but I also couldn’t get it to let go and try again either. After struggling for about 15 minutes with this last branch I had to get out the ladder and climb up to try to release it. The stupid rope had come off the roller and it was jammed and would not let go or cut! I didn’t want to just leave the lopper hanging from the tree forever (embarasing) so I had to try and cut it with a pair of secateaurs, I couldn’t use the pruning saw because the other branches were in the way. After another 5 minutes struggling and stretching over from near the top of a 6 foot ladder, the branch broke…whew!

At least now my horizon is “smoother” and doesn’t have little branches that always seem to block something. Problem is, now I have pulled a muscle in my neck and can hardly turn around and the muscles in my shoulders are aching from fighting with the tree so I will be a few scope free nights for me.

So I guess anyone in Melbourne can expect some more clear nights for a while.

In winter when the deciduous trees loose their leaves, there is about a half dozen streetlights directly visible my back yard

For times when you have a sore neck or back , you need one of these
