Latest isn't good. It's already at cat3 now and predicted to be cat4 by landfall in about 24 hours.

Going by the satellite animation at present it's heading for Townsville. A cat4 in a major city would be bad news.

It is very still & clear here in Cairns ATM, the proverbial calm before the Storm.
I have a busy day of cyclone preperations ahead, as I imagine you do to Mick & Kevin !
The forecast last nightwas for gales to develop in the Whitsunday Islands at first, starting late today!

Overcast and calm here at the moment as well Ian. BOM are getting good at predicting cyclone movements and intensity, years ago it was hit and miss Next advice is at 8am

Good luck to all my fellow North Qeenslanders!

It's still quiet here. The wind is picking up, and it's just starting to rain. See you all on the other side.......

Only 6mm of rain from it here in Mackay so far. Might be a different story tonight though.

Be safe everyone. This one's a baddy.

Unfortunately it looks like its going to come to ground right where my parents are building their new house at Tully heads. They've just got the walls up and the roof on and are still living in their caravan. And my sister and her husband live at Mission Beach. It's going to be a tense night here, that's for sure .

Ian and all in NQ,

All I can say is keep safe..the latest news is not good regarding the cyclones intensity. Also looks like there might be another TC developing behind it (TC Monica?) although its predicted to head more SW.

My parents and brothers are in Innisfail right where this thing is supposed to hit shore so I'll be spending a long night worrying about them.
I hope all Queensland members keep safe and I will be thinking of you over the next 24 hours.

Category 5 now and the eye is about to pass over Innisfail as I type.

I guess later in the day we'll get an idea of the damage.

Just spoke to Mum at my sisters near Mission Beach. I was surprised to get through. Lost the roof of the farm shed, guttering gone from the house, garage door somewhere down the paddock, water being driven under the sliding doors and windows, but the house is holding and everyone is safe.

Mum and Dad have been through quite a few cyclones over the years (we call them the Gypsy Russells as they have spend the last 15 years travelling Aus and have only just decided to settly in one spot) and Mum was saying this is the biggest and wildest they've been through.
