Orion Epic/Saxon ED2 2.3mm "Clone"

Orion Epic/Saxon ED2 2.3mm Clone

Doing a bit of a belated Spring clean and found (and thus remembered) this eyepiece. I have a "clone" of an Orion Epic eyepiece and thus it is physically identical to the one in the picture minus the words "Orion" painted on the side.

http://www.telescope.com/Accessories.../47/p/8227.uts

(Please note the picture in the link is a 3.7 and not a 2.3 which I have for sale).

If you need a super short fl eyepiece (2.3mm) with 55fov and still has a remarkable 20mm of ER then this EP certainly does the job. The only thing comparable to my knowledge are the LV and Nagler 2.5's - both of which cost significantly more money.

Anyhow, this Epic clone is surplus to my needs, it is in good condition and also comes with a bolt case - $50 including PPH anywhere in Australia.

Thank you for looking at my listing.

Here is a link to the identical eyepiece this time "badged" as made by Saxon.

Retail price is $99.95 but mine is $50 including PPH

2.3/3.8/21??

Hi Profiler.

I have one of these EPs in 21mm but it is marked ED2.3 21 Long Eye Relief

It gives the impression of being a 2.3mm eye peice but is infact wrongly marked and is a 21.. EP and pretty good for all that. Is that the case here or is it a genuine 2.3mm??

Just FYI the link you have posted is to a ED 2 3.8mm. I haven't been able to track down the 2.3 image yet but am still trying :-)

Regards

Trevor

Hi Regulus

Ironically it would appear that whether these EPs feature a brand name on them or not is not necessarily any warranty for quality control as the Saxon ones appear to be confusingly labelled.

The link to the Saxon EP is simply for illustrative purposes - like the previous link to the Orion website which shows what the EP looks like and that they are all the same except whether they feature the badge Orion or Saxon.

Finally - this EP - although a no brand name clone is in fact correctly labelled and is indeed a 2.3mm fl EP - they do exist.

Yes they do , I have the 3.2 , 5.2 , 9 , 12.5 mm's , untill I sold the 21mm to Trevor and they are all good eyepieces , Vixen Lanthium clones and very over looked .
I have not a clue why they have the 3.2mm on then ?? .
Maybe the Ed lense inside is 3.2mm thick ? or 3.2mm from the focal plane ? or .... or ..
Enjoy yours , Trevor what ever the reason.
Brian.

Yes - 2.3mm - super short fl suitable/ideal for short focal length refractors/newts etc. I used it on a FS-60 I once had many moons ago which has a fl of 355..
