where to find an event calender for celestial events?

Hey guys,
does anyone no where i could find an Event Calender for celestial events like
month to month for Australia, i know IIS is suppose to have one but its under construction,

anyone know where to find one? or when the IIS one should be back up?

Hi Jason

The Astronomy Calendar (the physical one) by Astrovisuals is great for month to month astro events.

I really do need to get a proper event calendar up and running again on IIS but time.... I wish I had more of it.

If you have an Android device, this is probably what you need.
After installation no internet connection required and it suits automatically to your location (set by GPS or manually).

Either the calendar Mike mentions above or the "Astronomy 2012" almanac is the go. The latter is a soft cover book, you should be able to find it at a local bookstore.

SkyMaps has an online calendar and downloadable/printable evening sky map for each month.

Hello Jason, coinsidence right there.

I personally use the Astronomy Australia magazine, you usually get them in yearly editions EG 2012. Though usually if you look on general chat daily there will usually be someone talking about something interesting happening in the near future.

Wow, skymaps might be useful. I'm always missing out on important celestial events and only find out about them AFTER they've happened (missing lovejoy was a real kick up the bum for me to visit iceinspace to see what's coming up).

Hi Jason,

+ 1 here for Astronomy Australia 2012. Not only does it give you a month by month guide to upcoming events, it also has maps, planet & moon rise and set times for each state in Australia, meteor showers, listing of deep sky objects, bright and nearest stars, astro clubs, etc etc etc. It's a very useful resource.
This year there is a special section on double star observing for beginners- I'm very excited about that one.

You can buy this book from bookstores, I just got mine on the weekend from QBD $27, and Bintel sells them for $25.
They are also normally available here through Mike (iceman); I don't know about stock levels though, just send him a pm if you're interested.

I agree with Suzy. Astronomy Australia is great, and the Southern Sky Watch (mira website) is excellent, I check it out every month. Ian does a great job.
