Another Helmet - repo added.

I've been shooting at this for most of December, between clouds, but I'm not too sure on the result. It's a Ha/O3 bi colour narrowband image, using tone mapping techniques to build the image, then overlayed with some RGB stars. There seems to be too much nebulosity considering it came off of an 8" mirror.

This is about 5.6 hours of Ha, 6.6 Hours of O3, all 20minute subs and about 1.5hours of LRGB for star colour.

GSO RC8, QHY9, off axis guided.

[edit]
Added a calibrated repo with a little less sharpening.

Nice image Robin. I am glad to see you have had some skies to take advantage of. It has been ordinary here with the only clear nights while I am at work on night shift.

Nice effort Robin. I found this to be a really hard image despite it having a high surface brightness. Noise was hard to tame and in the end I did a lot of exposure time; around 22 and a bit hours. I think you're on the right track and probably need more exposure time. Nebulosity is about what I would expect though for a narrow band image.

It's pretty much the same here doug. I've spent 9 separate nights so far to get this much

20 minute subs are hard to get with the weather the way it is Paul. I should be able to toss in some binned subs though. But after slogging away for 3 weeks on this between clouds, it's getting a little boring

Starting to look good Robin, it is a hard sucker to do and to tame the noise you need lots of exposures and getting detail is a pita

Got another few hours worth last night Martin and tonight is looking good for a little more.

It was the red mist off to the left which puzzled me Paul not the colours. I've since discovered that I stacked that image with the cal files turned off. With cal files turned on, a couple of bad master flats stops it from aligning in maxim and I must have switched cal files off as some stage, trying to make it go. So that image is completely uncalibrated. I thought it looked odd. Just another normal stuff up from me

You piqued my interest with this one Robyn, so went Googling for NB images. I'd be interested to see what you've got when you sort out cal frames. Looks like some nebulosity to right of image is missing. Seems to be circular (vignetting?) artefacts that are no doubt cal related as you say. Otherwise it appear to be coming together great.

Looking forward to finished product. Colours looking reasonably natural.

Any hey, don't knock those 8" mirrors - that's a lot more real estate for sucking down photons than you refractor fiends are normally used to remember......
(Hmm, I suppose you have been playing with the 10" F/3.8 though too.....)

I dunno what's wrong with some of the original flats Rob, they look like normal flats to me, maybe more donuts than usual, it does need a clean

One files says 2234 image stars and I can pinpoint it ok, but if I manually calibrate that file with the original flat in the mix and pinpoint it, it says 9 image stars and it won't resolve, yet I see hundreds of stars on the screen? Ya got me. I have 87 light files for this thing and almost half wouldn't align. I re did flats tonight and only 5 are failing now. I'll stick it together eventually

I haven't shot it for about 3 or 4years and last time wasn't real hot, it was off an 8" mirror too. We appear to have come full circle

Great stuff Robin!
Certainly makes a difference when you can get 20min subs....
I think you've got the bi colour tech down pretty darn nicely!
Nice colour blend thats brought out some lovely structure.

Look forward to more!

Rich
