If instead of seeing vascular patterns at the back of your eye you can make out
the words "Cyberdyne Systems Model III, 2049" and a serial number, what does it mean?

Quite interesting. We learnt the basic facts as shown at school in science in 1st year and knew how to find the blind spot and how the brain tricks you in to not noticing it. We were also taught about cones and pillars etc. Do they still teach this in school science?

That Means you've got an old model. God changed a few things a few years later, and like your model, retro upgraded the universe sim on his PC to beta test before he got serious and installed version V. You wont believe model V, kicks ass. Problem is though, it's installed only at berth, too hard to retrofit.

That was really cool, thanks H!
For me it looks very much like an embossed surface with the vascular pattern being very clear but also with details in between. As if one applied the Emboss filter in Photoshop, it's quite striking.

Good one Humayun,

I learnt it so long ago that I'd forgotten most of it.
Very good to have had a refresher on it.

Thanks for sharing.

We were taught that they were called Rods and Cones, but that might have just been my hippie (read: druggie) science teacher. Or it could have been a WA thing.

I don't recall which is which, but it also explains averted vision, and why you can't look directly at things in the dark.
