No response 16 a close shave
It was a nice night for a change so I grabbed the scope for a bit of viewing. When I switched it on, it showed "no response 16". I thought it was odd, so I powered off and on again, same message. By now I am getting worried. Took everything off and back inside. Did a quick search on the net, apparently it's an error from the hand controller to the motors, by now I am definitely worried!
Cut a long story short, I decided to have a go at fixing it. Pulled the single arm fork fairings off piece by piece, disconnected and reconnected all bits to the main board, still nothing.
In desperation, I opened up the hand controller, and there was the fault- the connector between the keypad and the phone wire somehow worked loose. A quick snap reconnection, power on HEY PRESTO!!!
Very relieved after that close call.
I re-examined the keypad connector carefully, there was a flaw in the design in that the connecter leading to the cable didn't have a rubber grommet to stop the cord from being pulled too far. So if one was not careful and pulled the hand controller a bit more than the cable allows, the connector can simply pop out. Apparently, this has happened to a few 8SE owners in the US and some had to send it back to Celestron to get it repaired.
Just counting my lucky stars mine was a straight forward fix.
