Discovered by Abbe Lacaille in 1751-52.
This cluster is another one of Abbe Lacaille's discoveries, made during his 1751-1752 journey to South Africa.
NGC 3293 consists of more than 50 stars in a 10 arc minutes field, the brightest of which is a red giant of mag 6.5, between many hot, blue bright stars (the hottest of spectral type B0). Rests of some nebulous material, floating between the stars which have probably formed from them. With an estimated age of only 10 million years, NGC 3293 is a very young cluster.
this is one on many clusters in Carina, and I agree is a beauty, maybe someone can give me an insight into capturing the nebula that surrounds it, I picked up some but very faint
Terrible Trevor. I got frustrated and only drift aligned at the meridian and did not check my alt which resulted in unacceptable field rotation as I was doing 10 min subs @ 812mm.
Bugger but last night I did both. Still not happy with my SN. I'll be posting later today.
there is some nebula around this cluster but I couldn't tease it out
Hi Trevor, there is a PS plugin called Topaz adjust, try the demo version to see if it works for you. The plugin has some HDR settings with a dynamic brightness, i am very surprised at how much it can make hidden things pop out. If the data is there it will find it.
