guess this is a good place to go on about what to do with my dob and what i am doing with my dob, i just recently filled in alot of light gaps added telrad to it and allso added better frabric then the orginal teflon, sometime last year i added a wheel barrel thingy.
ill have to go to the hardware store to add alittle more updates
i will take a more recent photo once ive finished with what im doing with the mount i sure do love crafts, heres a photo from sometime last year though.
Hi Adrian, Interesting, keep us posted. I always like to see useful mods. I'm intrigued by the 'light gaps' can you expand on this? I imagined that compared to a Truss Dob any GS Dob light leaks would be negligible?

be good if the handles were at such a height that you dint have to bend down to pick em up... it would be more back saving and you could keep your back straight while wheeling and you wouldnt have to lift so high to get said back straight

sometimes when you take off the small cap off the cover and look inside the newt you can see stray light hiting the walls from the gaps and holes in the focus area geting rid of the light gap can be a slight improvement but ya it can be ignored, but all the more sight impovements you have can add up to a big impovement.
im doing a make over on the mount gonna do something equatorial to it then redo the wheel barrel system, yeah making the handles higher would be nice ill probly do that too, will be done soon well soon can take time sometimes, but all in good time of course, after i do the paintjob ill take a photo, cant having it look all uncolored

so i can use the scope equatorially an equatorial design, that is really what i want for this scope, and seems like it costs alot to buy one infact it makes me cry that it costs allmost as much and more then a telescope optics for a good EQ-mount, id rather use the money on geting another scope, or optics equipment cause basicly that is the most important thing in astronomy, the actual telescope optics. so i i would rather make an equatorial mount myself.
Went to bunnings today got myself some more equipment, im gonna have to take afew more trips though, times like these makes you glad you grew up with a mechano set, cause hell you can just replace that set with tools wood nuts and bolts when you get older.
heres a little update, so you can see whats actually going on, hehe, it will be larger when i am done i plan on geting more equipment tommorow to build more, reinforcements are good, if only i had some more powertools, hmm then again a workshop would be good too.

Done similar to this before. You may find the PVC piping inadequate. I redid the yoke by multilaminating 4 layers of 16mm ply and fibreglassing it. Flexure was reduced to 0.25mm.
Hey I am in the process of designing amount similar to this, but I am using 150x50RHS with a bit of 50x50 welded to the edge of it for stiffness. Going to hold my 8" scope in the obs. Was designing it for the 16" but changed my mind. looks good so far.
Do a test first.
Support the ends on a milk crate or similar and hange a load equal to 1/2 the weight of the proposed scope on each side positioned at the dec attachment points and measure the bending! This can be done with a block of wood and a bit of plasticine, you may be surprised!!!!
