MSL Curiosity imaged departing Earth orbit

Wow!

Duncan Waldron & Mark Rigby from the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium imaged the Curiosity spacecraft as it departed Earth orbit heading for Mars.

The residual exhaust plume is quite a sight!

On the last night of the 2010 Queensland Astrofest we saw an American Spy Satellite and it's rocket do exactly the same thing.
We could see the vehicles seperating throug our telescopes
Kevin Dixon spotted it first and it was observed in scopes from Peter Robbin's 30" down to mine and Kevins 16"s
Terry Cuttle published some images on iceinspace.
Truely a remarkable video from Duncan and Mark
Cheers
