Jupiter Drawing 18th Nov 2011

Well ... still very new to this all, despite having had my scope and kit for almost 12 months but haven't been getting out much. Finally got to see Jupiter for the first time the other night through my scope and wanted to try some pics with my DLSR. Clouds of course rolled in last night once I started setting up, so decided to forget the camera and trying to drift align and just observe this gas ball in the gaps.

Thought it odd to be able to see 5 moons, then checked my star program and realised it was a star not a moon ... ... still learning lots with lots more to learn, haha.

Then remembered reading that drawing can help with observing, so thought I'd try my hand at some sketches. Here's what I managed, all very crude but wanted to share them and get feedback, criticism, tips, etc.

Was using a standard crappy ball point pen will try again with some pencils for a softer touch. Unless there's something better to try?

Thanks for viewing ... and not laughing loud enough to be heard, haha!

Yes Daniel , I also watched this last night , looked good between the clouds using my Zeiss at 133x , Jupiter is an awsome object at the moment. or what ?
Its good to sketch so you can review events like this in the future .

Jupiter is something we share results with so many time over and over but we will never get sick of. Your sketch really represents what is like at the ep nice work. What scope and ep did you use?

Thanks for the comments guys. Using the Orion ED80T CF on a HEQ5 with a 15mm and 4mm EP, also have a guidescope for imaging but didn't bother with it for sketching. My main interest started out photographing nebula and try some galaxies, but find myself doing more observing that I thought I would and with Jupiter and the moon in the way, I get a little distracted, haha.
