The Rim Walk Kings Canyon

Hi Guys, Alice and I have just crossed the boarder from NT to SA, however before getting there we spent a couple of days at Kings Canyon, after leaving Ayers Rock.
We decided to do the Canyon Rim Walk, which is 6 kilometers long, and were gob smacked by its beautiful terrain, absolutely awesome stuff.
We hadn't seen rain for weeks on end in the center but on this particular day it started just as we began the walk.
It turned out a God send as it kept us cool, and brought out the wonderful colors of the surrounding cliffs, as you can see we are both soaked to the skin, but cool.
The colors of the rocks are natural, and are straight out of the camera.
Here are a few pics of our little adventure, and also one of our little dog standing on either side of the NT and SA boarder.

Hi Leon,

It is a great walk, isn't it.

You were lucky to get the cooling rain. It was 37C today in Sydney, so one can only
imagine how hot it could have got there.

Though it is not as grand as Kings Canyon or the Rock, a night at Rainbow Valley
is recommended.

We spent a tranquil Full Moon there one night a few years back and had the whole
place to ourselves.

The scenery is pretty spectacular Andrew. I much preferred Kings Canyon to Ayers Rock. The nice swimming hole doesn't hurt, especially on hot days. Thanks for the reminder Leon and enjoy the next leg of your trip!

Thanks guys, yes I have to admit i was very impressed, certainly some very nice places in the middle of the desert.

Oh - the memories!! We haven't been there since 1987 but I still remember it clearly. In those days you could camp near the gorge entrance but there were no facilities, not even a toilet. The rim walk didn't exist but you could go up the 'lost city' side and to the pool above the falls. We were there for a few days and did a few walks. We followed the creek upstream and got to places that most people don't see - the benefit of being young, fit and adventurous. We also went up the other valley that joins in just below the gorge. I remember that there was a butcher bird in the tree near our tent that sat there and repeated the same call without pause for 4 days. Despite the beauty of the voice I was getting ready to strangle the little bugger.
