If You Never Try You Will Never Know

Re: the title. How true it is.
About 18 or more months ago we had my lady's son and his family over for dinner.
I had the scope pointed at Saturn. The kids all made the usual positive comments. Brad said, "Later!" But clouds were moving in. I thought the one person to be interested would be Brad. Well "later" did not come.

Moving on to last Saturday night. Same family members. Plus 9 Yr O. David. David can name all the Solar system Planets and describe each one.
Jupiter was the telescope subject. The kids were doing the "Wow" thing. It took a little prodding to get Brad to have a look.
That was all it took. It was near impossible to separate him from the scope.
His attitude had changed from uninspiring to excited.
"The white dots, are they the moons?"

Shortly the near full moon appeared. "Wow! I can see the craters."

From an uninterested bystander to a total convert in just seconds behind the eyepiece.
The coversation became centered around astronomy for most of the remainder of the night.

I assume some of the IIS members have had similar or totally opposite experiences. I'd like to hear about them.

Cheers

I had a bloke come over my place and have a look through my
homemade 8" once when I was an apprentice.
I showed him Saturn amongst other things that night.

Trevor is his name, and he's been hooked ever since

Hi Steve,

That is an impressive site. So you were instrumental in starting Trevor's sleep deprived nights and spending his hard earned cash on astro gear?

I suppose we all have our vices.
