Project Turf
Here's a timelapse from yesterday - 6 hours compressed into 30 seconds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8pzEX23hxA&hd=1
My body aches from pushing 3+ tonnes of dirt and 50m2 of turf up to the backyard, but glad to finish it
I took 1 photo every 2 minutes over 6 hours. Canon 40D + Sigma 17-70mm lens @ 17mm. AV mode.

He he he...and the construction of the observatory on that so wasted open area of grass will be a nice addition to the time lapse

Maybe an observatory in the future. It's the highest point in the yard which is great, but from up there, the big gumtree you can see blocks a large portion of sky.
Would need to lop a limb or two before an observatory (or at least a pier) would work there.

Yes - absolutely stuffed. Had to transport the dirt (3+ tonnes of it) from the lowest point of the block (down next to the road) to the highest point of my block. All up hill. Not fun.

Reminds me of the good'ol training days when I used to lineup 6 X 90kg sacks of wheat at the bottom of my driveway and then lift and run with them up the drive (about 20m at modest incline) as fast as I could one after the other (while Riley timed me), I'd do this maybe 6 or 8 times (including the carrying back down the drive slowly.. so up to 8 tons total ) and....then I would be dead ...so I know exactly how you must have felt your high level of aerobic fitness must have helped you no end though

Gardening Australia had a segment of turf laying on Saturday Mike.
They actually reccomend to roll or compact after the grass has been laid to ensure the young roots get a good contact with the soil and promote stronger growth.

LOL yeh my son Jacob was standing in front of the camera, posing, waiting for it to go off.
Then, just as he got sick of waiting and started moving, CLICK.
You'll see in the next few frames he's pretending to do some work too

We just laid our turf a few weeks ago now and we didn't roll it either or film it. Us walking on it and the dogs running over it has been enough I believe. I did read after a week or so to go around and see if the lawn lifts up to check if roots have taken to dirt. I noticed a couple of patch's in ours that lifted so i just put some top soil on the areas and watered in. Seems to have worked.

Mike,
That was the easy bit.
We look forward to the time lapse of you mowing it every other weekend for the
next 40+ years.

LOL thanks Gary. I had to whippersnip the weeds that kept growing there, so mowing turf will be easier and better to look at
