Tawny Frogmouth and Fledgling

I think this little fella tried to leave the nest too soon.
My son Jack spotted it on the ground the other day, but they have since made their way up to the front of the property, and up onto the fence near the gate.
So happy he's off the ground now.
Mum (or Dad) is very protective.

Don't they do an awesome "branch" impersonation??

Photos taken with my iPhone.
Never ever again will I leave the house without a high res camera.

a very short video here.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=kM9PXjfapJE

Very cute, JJJ! We had a couple that used to sleep in a dead tree in the yard next door. Unfortunately, the neighbours did some renovations and knocked the tree down...

Hi Jeanette

Thanks for those fabulous wildlife photos. Despite the non-DSLR performance of your iPhone, they have come out really well indeed and convey quite a touching portrait of this beautiful scene in nature.

Cheers

Dennis

Great shots Nettie. They really show the brilliance of the camouflage and the power of parental love. I'd love to get a photo of a Frogmouth. We have a lot around here but I only see them flying (and then when I don't have a camera). Too well camouflaged!

Hi jjj,
Great photos from the iphone.
I love these birds. There were a pair that roosted in a tree next door for a few years.
I might even post a few pics of them if I can find them.

Cheers,
Ken.
