Why use a Mintron camera?

The use of a Mintron camera has been bothering me since I saw Karls48 post asking where to get one.

Why would one use a b/w, low resolution video camera for astro photography?
I understand the camera is more light sensitive. But apart from that, what are the benefits of using it, as opposed to using a Toucam, for instance?
