Made 'The Top One hundred' list.

Hi Folks.

I see a few threads running at present about 'D'oh' moments and mistakes.
We all have 'Homer Simpson' and 'Mr Bean' Episodes in Astronomy.

But,every once in a while we nail it.A while ago I took a astro image that went around the world,I thought I'd heard the last of it.But,regular usage requests for that image happens almost daily.Eight months ago the senior editor of
'Astronomy' magazine contacted me,They wanted to print it in 'an up coming' issue.

Forgot all about it,until a parcel arrived from U.S with the November issue of Astronomy in it-with a special 'Top One Hundred' astro images of the year.
Amazingly they selected my image to be one of them!(page 33) Martian Pugh also made the distinction too!

So something like that makes all the 'D'oh' moments go away~!

re list

There may be other IIS members or Australians on the list too,I've only flicked through very the name quickly,Martian's was the only other I was familiar with.

The eye gets drawn away from names when looking-they really are ALL jaw dropping images-some of the wide field are just so amazing.

Not sure if they sell this mag in Australia,They use to 18 years ago-still got some from back then.

re image

Thanks all,its been most unusual to have such an image, over 17'000 views on this forum alone, and to have gone so far.Never expected any of what happened-apparently its going to be made into big posters and go in science museums etc in many countries in the N.H-it has already been postered in Germany and Austria, now the U.S.A.Its been used in universities for maths tut's.It featured in an add for 'Gizmodo' last month.

Ah huh! my issue arrived today

"100 greatest pictures of the Year" is a little missleading, many of the featured images are well over a year old

Certainly some awesome shots in that lot though

Of course there are a few "wha tha?" ones too but that is par for the course for these sort of subjective collections.

Jason Jennings (Helix) and Alex Cherney (Milky Way over southern Vic) are two other Aussies that got an image featured too (along with Chris and Martian )

The shot top right p26 looks rather familiar... bah! I was robbed

Nice work fellas!

Mike
