Compass and GEM setting up

Hello.

Looking for knowledge on setting up a GEM in the bush-I have an observatory, and never really use a tripod mounted GEM these last few years.

But I have a Vixen GP mount I'd like to take on bush trips, and set up for some wide field, with landscapes etc.

I need recommendations on a good compass (No- I do not have an apps pod,nor do I want one),So can anyone recommend a good old fashion style compass?

Also, what is rough reading to PA-is it 12 degrees to the left of what show south?-as I say its been along time, since I've had to go in the field to do all this.

Thanks for any advice-cheers Chris

Hi,

I use one of these

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Military-...item19c28864f7

It goes well. It has no internal illumination however, and a dim red LED would be handy.

Magnetic declination, or deviation, varies from place to place, but for the East coast of Oz it is 11-12 degrees.

When looking for true South, it is therefore 11-12 degrees East of magnetic South.

Cheers
