IC 4628 Narrow Band

Howdy.

Here is a my first real attempt at a narrow band image in Hubble palette.

About 4 and a bit hours worth in total.

I'd like a bit of feed back on how to present my stars better, not just in this image but how do others in general do it? Oh, and any good tips for better narrow band images, too!

Looks good.

It does bring out a lot of detail.

I'm still to venture down the "narrow" path.

For a first real attempt at the Prawn in narrowband, you've produced a visually pleasing result. Of course narrowband is like seafood, not everyone likes it. I think you've managed the stars well. Clipping masks are the way to go in managing narrowband data. More please...

I remember somewhere about a tutorial I had seen years ago with clipping masks for narrow band. Off to find that now. I am going to repro this one again and I have some data of M8 I can throw together for the practice, too.

Gray this looks pretty reasonable to me. Especially for a first NB image. I cannot offer much really. The second image looks better than the first though.

I have done a repro using clipping masks as Jase had suggested using, which I had read about a long time ago and forgotten. I will post it into a new post as I think it deserves it.

For your first attempt, this looks great Gray!
Stars look very good as well.
I think what Jase has said pretty much sums up NB filtered images... bit of this, bit of that and..... da da..... this is my representation!

You are of course correct, what is right and wrong with narrow band. What is a true representation? For me, I'm no scientist, it is art and my interpretation of how that object should look to capture the viewers eye.

Maybe I'm on the wrong forum?

Both colour schemes look good Gray but I think the original working looks the best .

The reprocessing has imparted some colour circles around the stars and star groups.

I see what has happened!

When I posted the third version, it has over written the first version, so I must have stupidly used the same image name and Sky drive has said "ok, lets overwrite that".

The original is actually version three, which is the best one so far.

Any ideas as to why those circles have appeared during processing??

Thanks Mill, it was hard to get a compromise between the two with my limited processing ability. Onwards and upwards!!
