The Great Wetherell Refractor

So telescopes can be a thing of beauty...a classic design with modern optics from TEC...and functional. There is a write up in Aug/Sep 2011 Australian Sky & Telescope but if anyone missed it here is the link to the website

This is like a lovechild between a Tak and Michaelangelo with a healthy dose of Steampunk thrown in.
The brass details, even the HC. Incredible, work of art.

If you navigate further into the website you see another project Tim Wetherell is/was working on. He was commissioned to build for Mt Stromlo Observatory a replacement OTA for the 9" Oddie refractor that was destroyed in the 2003 Canberra bushfires. The replacement he has named the Oddie II Refractor.....sweet
