A observing night sometime?

I was thinking maybe some of the QLDers might be able to get together at a place where the drive isn't as long for some of us. I would really enjoy it but I don't know where a good place would be.

A place where we could cook dinner, have it at around 5- whenever people want to leave, i don't know.

Anyone got some ideaS? it would be cool if this happened.

Charlie, maybe you need to talk to Striker or Astro_south or one of the other Brisbanites to arrange a lift to Astrorons. It'd be hard to find somewhere around the Brissie area where the light pollution isn't as bad as peoples own own backyards. So most observing gets done out of town. Hell if you can get yourself onto a train and come up to Nambour I can give you a lift out there. You don't have to worry about bringing up a scope (though it's nice to be able to look through your own) there is often some mammoth scopes up here (30" this weekend hopefully) but there is always a 16" here.

Think about it.

I'm sure some other Brissoes will pipe up with an offer too.

No, I already said I can't go, it is my cousins 18th birthday.

Still, my dad wouldn't like that. he is over protective.

I didn't mean this weekend Charlie, I know you can't come. I was just following on from your first post as a general idea about a get together. Would your dad be prepared to bring you up and camp overnight one night?

I just thought of something Charlie. If you contact Andrew (Astro_South), he (and others) sometimes go out to a mhodson's (Mark) place which is out near Gatton somewhere, but I don't know when they are next going out there. It's probably only about an hour to get there and it's freeway/highway all the way and the skies are not too bad.

I can really appreciate that Charlie. I'm very protective of my 14 year old son. Which is why he decided to live with his mother now. She basically lets him do whatever he want and is always getting into trouble

Hey that's what Dad's are for. To go too far. Just ask my just turned 18 year old daughter and how I grill her boyfriends. It's great fun

Hey, I can understand his hesitation to entrust his son to people he hasn't met.
Maybe a suburban observing night would be the answer so your Dad could meet some of us.
Let us know when you would like to have it, and I'll see if I can come down for it.

Some of the other younger members and their parents from Brissie and surrounds could come along too.
How many teenagers belong to IIS anyway?

In the southeast QLD area there are at least 3 that I know of, though probably more.

What do you think Charlie? Do you think it would be worthwhile to organise an event so the parents of our younger memebers can meet and get to know us oldies.

Urban Observers have their gatherings on the first Sun of each month near where I live in Indooroopilly. Whereabouts are you located Charlie? BTW we have been trying to organize a get together at Mark's place since late last year but Mark is currently busy with work...the other alternative is to head over to astro_south's place. I usually go there when we are not gathering at other places during the new moon. But you will have to check with Andrew first.

Charlie is at Wooloowin, on the Northside.
I wonder if we could get permission to setup at one of the school ovals.
