Hello!

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Greg and I currently live in Spokane WA. Astronomy became an interest to me while camping about 13yrs ago. At that time I joined a club started going to meetings etc. I haven't been very involved for about the last 5rys but I am getting the bug again. Currently I own a Celestron C5, and I am about 85% done with my 12.5" truss-tube build. I am looking forward to chatting with everyone, sharing knowledge, and making new friends.

Hi Greg
Sounds like you've got a pretty nice set up there.

There is so much to learn here, and let's face it, we can talk astro as long as we want here and we don't get the rolling eyeballs and the sighs and the foot tapping and .. and.. and.. that many of us get at home.

Looking forward to your contributions.

Hi Greg - welcome aboard. I too have just joined up as I have just purchased my first scope, and just begining my own journey of astro discovery! I see your building your own - impressed with that & would like to know more.

I looked at where you come from and thought "Spokane? There's no Spokane in Western Australia." Then I saw how far away you lived and realised you're in Washington state. Might cause a bit of confusion here. What brings you half the way around the world to join us in the antipodes?

Thanks Allan!

Jacquie,

Lol I changed it to read Washington... You know, I have had the opportunity to do some traveling and it is always nice to hear different perspectives from people around the globe. After looking over the site I saw many cool links, DIY projects, friendly advice and thought, hmm I would like to be a part of this great family.. :-P Looking forward to great advice and conversations.

Welcome Greg

ha, I also thought it was in WA - Western Australia. We have a Washington lad with us.
Great job on that truss!! Very clever indeed.
What are the skies like in your town ... lots of light pollution??

Hey Greg:

I assume you have plenty of time to build that scope considering how much cloud cover Spokane suffers from... assume you are at Fairchild AFB. You should try to get stationed over here for a while, great weather (though you couldn't tell it from this year, especially in the east). Then again, maybe Hawaii would be better, as you could observe from the top of Mauna Kea

Anyway... Good to see another "Yank" here. I'm originally from Colorado, been away from the USA since 1999. I'm starting to get "The Calling" from the motherland, still trying to ignore it but I finally gave in and will be going back to Colorado to visit family at Xmas time. Maybe I'll finally get my Meade out for a peek...

All the best
OIC!

OIC,

Are you scoping me out? (pun intended) However, you assume correctly I am stationed there but not for long. I retire the first part of 2012. Woohoo! Spokane isn't to bad for clouds. The area averages 19 inches of rain a year. Of course light pollution is a bit of an issue. I really wish the city would enact an ordinance to use shielded lighting etc. It would save millions. I have always wanted to visit Australia. I should have when I was living in Japan. It is on the list of places to visit. (Great Barrier Reef) I am a wanna be marine biologist...

I am sure you will enjoy the trip back. Colorado is beautiful!

Oh, if anyone wants to be friends on Facebook just send me a request! I have many projects on there besides my telescope such as, 375 gallon aquarium I built, a tear drop build, Dart frog & Gecko tanks, Power Kiting etc. I have many hobbies.
Not sure if this link will work: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1220122747 or search for: Greg Allen
