What to see for a newbie

Hi guys

I live in suburban Sydney, Strathfield, and am still a total beginner. I've had my 8in dob for a few weeks now and have only really seen the moon and Saturn.

I want to start looking for some dso's and nebulae etc, what are some that would be visible and reasonably easy to find?

Thanks

This has been dea;t with quite recently, but again, probably the biggest and easiest to find, and amazing nebulae at the moment is Eta Carinae, close to the Southern Cross.

Another favourite is the Jewel Box, again close to the Southern Cross.

While in the area Omega Cluster in Centaurus.

Others will add more I am sure.

Best you can do is to come up to Mangrove Mountain Pony Club tonight.
Its close. Its free. And you will see and learn heaps.

the directions are in a sticky at the top of the Star Parties thread.

Hope to see you there

Thanks for that and thanks for letting me know about the club, unfortunately can't make it tonight because of a mates bucks night but I'll definitely attend other events in future.

I must say though how helpful this forum is for a beginner like me. I bought my scope knowing nothing and because of this site and the friendly yet informative replies on here I am having a great time with it.

It is always good to get feedback, especially positive
Look forward to meeting you at the club - maybe even next Saturday - watch the star parties forum.
