Total Eclipse over the Brindabella's

All,

Here's my lame result.

I was hoping for something really spectacular just as the Moon was about to set over the mountains, but, it wasn't to be. I feel as though I got part way to the surreal image in 617 format that I had in my mind's eye. Oh, well.

Not exactly what I was after, but, it'll do.

You can read about it and see a larger version here.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 70-200mm f/28L USM, Canon EF 1.4x II Extender
6s f/8 at 140.0mm iso800

I don't see it as lame. Still works nicely in composition.

I agree with Marc, not lame at all. I like the contrast in colours.

Cheer Petra d.

It may not have gone to plan for you, but it's still a damn fine image! It's not your run of the mill TLE picture, and that's what we like about it.

Well done, Humayun, the weather being what it is. This is my third dawn totality and it is pretty tricky to be able to image the Moon close to the horizon (I've only tried to image twice and I am by no stretch of the imagination as accomplished photographer as yourself), atmosphere interferes and the Moon being so dim atmosphere reddening adding to the already red colour just washes it away. Great composition.

Not a bad shot H - I can see what you were hoping to achieve.

Just a question - why were you using the tele extender, but shooting within the focal range of the native lens?

You have the gift of planning out fantastic shots. If only the weather played along.

Forgot I posted this. :S

Thanks to everyone for looking and commenting.

David, I had the extender on there because I intended to capture the Moon setting over the ranges at 280mm focal length. It was too cold to bother with taking it off so just left it on. Because it was obvious that I wasn't going to capture what I had hoped for, I just set the lens back to its native 70mm focal length; with the extender, that brought it back to 140mm.

Not my finest hour, that's for sure.
