Delicate NGC6164

Taken over several nights about 2 weeks ago this is right next to NGC6188.

The very delicate shock wave is reminiscent of the Vela Supernova Remnant.

I took some O111 for this to accentuate that shock wave which does not really show in luminance and shows a bit in Ha.

HaO111LRGB 135 150 45 30 50 50 for a total of 7 hours and 40 minutes.

CDK17, Proline 16803, Paramount ME, Astrodon Gen 11 filters.

Nice one Greg! I like how NB renders the shock front!

I can see though that poor seeing was a problem - it's been pretty bad in these parts lately hasn't it! .

Cheers, Marcus

Yes I was really going for picking that up. I've picked it up before but that was at my dark site.

Cheers Marc. The 17 inch does create a nice vista.

Yes it was quite poor during most of this. I think it was OK in the O111 as that was about a week later. There was some really variable seeing a few weeks ago. I am not sure what setting I had but CCDstack listed the FWHM of a long list of images taken one night. The lowest was 1.2! The highest was 9. How does that work?

Lovely shape and O3 gives it the size it really covers.

Thanks Peter. I was aiming to capture as much as possible of that delicate shockwave.

A beautiful shot of a difficult object. You worked hard to get those shock waves and they just look so ephemeral. Really nicely done, Greg.

Great image Greg, as others have mentioned the shock front is beautifully rendered, but also the Ha of the inner neb isn't blown out - so easy to do on this one. Top shot

Regards
Keith

Thanks Allan. It usually is shown in an NGC6188 image when it is very widefield. I thought it was a nice enough object to do it by itself.
