Another M83 from Ten Chain Hill

I'm struggling with the processing so I thought I'd throw this out and see if I can attract some of the flak away from Geoff

My first time guiding, using a CCD camera and processing with Maxim... constructive criticism appreciated.

Using a QHY-12, Tak FSQ-106ED @ f/5 and AP900 mount. 6 x 15 min exposures.

Thanks,
Rick.

wow, knowing where your are coming from and the limitations of your current mount you've got a great shot Rick. Nice detail. The sky background magenta/purple cast to it on my laptop though. Colour balance

Some really nice data in this Rick. Detail is great and everything else stacks up to being a nice image.
Reduce the mid tone greens, lift the blue, selective sharpen the core area and this does come up pretty nice. I have had a play but have to stop posting redone JPG files.

Good data so give it a repro.

@ponders - I was amazed that he got any shots with the mount he was using!!

Plenty of detail Rick, althought I agree there is a colour cast to the background

Thanks for the kind & helpful comments, guys!

Paul: it's a good mount, but it only has spindly little legs at present

I've had another hack at my image in an attempt to make the improvements that Doug suggested.

Cheers,
Rick.

Pretty good first light Rick, not sure about the purple repo though

Are those bright stars blooming or is it a reflection? How deep are the wells on a qhy12?

Great shot!! well processed. There is fine detail in the center of the galaxy. I can also see the magenta cast in the background, you might check the colour balance

The purple was a bit lurid, wasn't it.

I'm not sure what those halos are. I think I can see them very faintly in the original frames.

The QHY-12 has a 32Ke- well depth, I believe.

Thanks, Geoff & Ross!

Cheers,
Rick.

The second one is a lot better Rick. Still colour balance to work out but you are well on your way.

Here is a quick one I just did of your JPG. Hope you don't mind.

Thanks, Doug. Yours looks great, so I can see there is good data struggling to escape I'm playing with it again tonight. I think I'm learning from my mistakes

Cheers,
Rick.

If you're not all sick of looking at it, here's another version. I think this one is quite a bit better. I used PixInsight and like the way it does things (apart from refusing to debayer the QHY-12 data to anything that looked like a colour image).

Thanks,
Rick.

Very nice Rick, a vast improvement on the original. Good data makes all the difference. It gives you lots of room to work with and your data was good in fact very good.
This image shows all the bits and pieces of M83 in good detail etc.

Great work.

Looks like your cooking with that one Rick. Even the reflections from those stars are reduced a lot. Did you calibrate and align the subs in PixInsight ?
