Updated Consumer Laws

Hi,

Some publicity on a change in consumer law since Jan 2011:

Commonwealth law has superseded parts of State laws, and there will be joint administration. Here is Fair Trading NSW on it:

I note with interest that astro gear that is costly, and would reasonably be expected to last significantly longer than a year, might have to be covered for repair or replacement by the seller for a longer period. As before, the seller cannot avoid this by referring the buyer to a manufacturer or wholesaler. The final decision in any dispute will be up to a State Tribunal or the courts.

Cheers

That's based on the notion that an astronomer will not tinker or modify his gear.

What - you'd rather it wasn't there?

No, just being a realist.

I am fully aware of consumer laws. Have taken action through Fairtrading many times. The laws dont really change for people of NSW, most of the changes brought everyone up to NSW standards, but it makes it safer for those buying through interstate retailers on the Internet.
