Great astro image from a local photographer

Hi guys, with permission from the photographer, Gwen Velge, I am able to share this great image taken at Lake Koorkoordine, Southern Cross.

Gwen is a very talented Perth photographer specialising in sports such as kite surfing (I hope I have this right?) but recently has been taking photos around WA from the air with his powered paraglider.

This particular image caught my eye and I thought some of you would also like to see it. In one shot he has captured the Milky Way, the LMC and SMC, the south celestial pole and his glider. This was the first time he'd tried such a long exposure and when I saw it on his facebook page I fell in love with it.

He listed the specs as: "f/2.8 with my fisheye 10.5mm at infinity of course, Bulb mode : 891 seconds, iso 200".

WA locals will also like Gwen's other shots, which can be seen here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...11822468843384

Cheers all, enjoy!

Nice piccie

The paraglider looks like it's stuck in the salt crust..like it's been there for awhile

A wonderful image

Star trails are the simplest astro image to obtain yet they can be so spectacular in their presentation.

That's a really nice dynamic star trail! The only shame is the clipped light on the horizon, but the sky is that amazing I really don't mind!
