Saturn & Jupiter June 1st 2011

Hi All,

Imaged Saturn last night in fair to reasonable seeing, have posted 1 RGB & 807nm IR data set. There were no bright spots within the storm in this region.

Imaged Jupiter this morning (still June 1st regarding the UTC date), the seeing was quite reasonable for this close to the horizon, my first data set was at an alt of only 23 degrees with the final data set at 33 degrees in broard daylight with the Sun about to rise over the horizon.

Have attached 2 RGB & 807nm IR data sets plus links to animations of all 4 RGB & IR data sets.

Thanks for looking.
Regards
Trevor

I love the subtle transition from light yellow to orange, green and finally blue in your image of the Northern hemisphere of Saturn (with south being up); have you been able to capture the Encke division? That seems to be rather difficult to accomplish.

Hi Derek, I suspect it is an artifact from the mulit point stacking.

Thanks Peter, the Enke gap requires very good seeing to image and I have captured it a few times this apparition. Have attached an image in good seeing from Feb 24th.

Thanks Troy, yep, old Jup is still pretty low to the horizon at dawn but it is still worth the effort to try and capture a record of the changes to the SEB and new structure in the region of the GRS.

Thanks very much Giuseppe, I am sure we all look forward to imaging Jup at higher alts over the coming months.
