Dob Driver 2 installation Site? Any available.

Hi all,

Are there any websites with instructions (detailed) for adding the dob driver 2 to a GSO telescope?

Anyone done this to the meade lightbridge yet?

only what came with the unit itself.

unfortunately, mels is king in this area. I would get 5 or 6 emails aday form mel's yahoo groups and i have had one from the dob driver II.

I found the instructions eassy to follow and I am very confident that the 16" will be fine to use this system.

Until i have a closer look at the bearings of the 16", i am not sure how much modifications need to be done, but mine tracks beautifully with the standard 6" alt bearing on my 10" GS dob!

I can scan my instructions that came with the unit over the weekend and post them if you like!

I think I found some its basically on the alt axis a stepper and a disk on the alt bearing with cable drive? is there any further reduction of the stepper other than that?, looks a little under done on the gear reduction. and the az drive does te stepper sit on the rocker side with a wheel running on the base?

How do the steppers sound? I have a bit of noise from mine while tracking but whisper quiet while slewing (wouldnt mind it the other way around)

Sorry about so many Q's just seeing alternative drivers other than mels. Although I agree,Mels scope.exe is AWESOME!

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...17&postcount=1gives you an idea of my setup

the az bearing is great as the diameter is 560mm, but the alt bearing is 150mm. It tracks well at 1000x + magnification.

it is more the goto and two star alignment that is not real accurate. I really need a bigger alt bearinig for goto!

Hi

I don't know what the DOB 2 driver is like these days because I haven't used one for 9 years. However I did a lot of experimentation on a 8" Dob in the years prior to this.

I found a lot of shortcomings in the supplied computer program and wrote a new one but although I got it to work with a two star alignment and track nicely the gotos tended to get erractic due to the friction drive mainly for the RA (azm) bearing but also a little on the Dec (alt) bearing.

I intended to make a full belt drive for the RA (azm) but never got past the drive stage. mainly because I bought a LX200 classic.

I will attach my notes (A Msword Doc) in case they are some help. I think I still have the computer control program somewhere also.

Barry
PS I managed to find some old pictures of the installation.
