Happy Birthday Mike,
Your a twin with my younger brother. He also turns 30 today!!!!
I'm sure you won't be getting as drunk as he though. The fire brigade he volunteers for is throwing him a massive party . I reckon it could get pretty messy...
Did you get any cools toys? A couple of the cheap Naglers that have bee discussed recently perhaps ...
Enjoy the day, and hopfully you'll get the best present of all... Clear skies tonight Take it easy.
Cheers

Good on ya Mike

Getting old now.

How are you going to get your walking frame close enough to the scope without scratching it?

Hey, you can make a EP rack to hang on your walking frame!

Have a good one.

Thanks heaps guys!

Had a great night, a great party. We got some spitroast people to come in and do the food thing (had about 32 people) - although it was obviously more expensive than doing it yourself, it was much more relaxing. We didn't have to worry about anything, stress about the food, serving it, cooking it, cleaning up etc. They did it all.

For my pressies, astro related, I got a green laser pointer yay!
I also got "Exploring the Moon" book by Steve Massey, a couple of other books about the universe, Einstein etc.

When it got dark, I dragged the telescope out and made good use of the green laser.. I'm telling ya, the GLP was a hit! Everyone loved it! Including me

Of course I showed everyone Saturn first.. awesome responses from everyone..
"omg that's awesome"
"that's not a picture is it"
"is that real?"
etc

The hardcore interested people stuck around for more, so showed M42 and some open clusters. When it got later, a few hardcore drunkards left and carina rose over the trees, showed Eta Carinae neb and some open clusters in Carina.. absolutely awesome.
And so many satellites.. the GLP was great for pointing out satellites

I may have even got another 8" dob sold.. one couple was very interested in getting one for their sons (and themselves), and I told that the 8"dob is THE budget telescope right now, great for newbies and beginners and kids.

Oh and lots of people interested in getting a GLP now too

Had a great night! Thanks for the well wishes guys.
