Toshiba Laptop $398 at HN 26 Mar 2011, one day only

Just a heads up.

HN are selling Toshiba C600D/00 laptops tomorrow only for $398. Now they don't have the greatest CPU power but they are a full 15.6" laptop and should suffice for web browsing and most tasks but not gaming and photo manipulation.

Once again it is a basic machine but it should suit those who want a cheapie or those who just want one for basic tasks. More info here but be aware this was when the Lappy was priced at $600 not this $398.

Specs are:
15.6” widescreen LED-backlit display;the 10-digit numeric keypad;
Wireless capability; a webcam and a DVD SuperMulti:

Processor Brand AMD
Processor Type AMD E240 (single core cpu...I think)!

They may sell early so get in early. I haven't decided if I'll buy one as we have 2 mainframes and 4 laptops already, though one lappy is older and waiting for hinges and the other at Acer repair..so I may yet.

edit
forgot to say....maybe this is the 1st shot in a laptop price war?

Hi Paul...it's WIN7 and probably 32bit...but I really do not know only guessing on that part.

Just an edit to this. Toshiba appears to have a recovery partition for 64bit already on their lappies so you can choose your OS. I'm only guessing this model has the same..it should.

Can understand that..but weigh it up against the current price and the price it was when reviewed.

Remember this is pitched as a cheapie, 1st timer lappy or Kids lappy.

As long as you know what you are getting. From the review you would be getting Netbook processing in a Notebook form factor.

It all depends what you are looking for I guess.

Some more sub $400 lappies

Well just to toss some more cheapies into the fray that have similar if not better specs than the above:

15.6" HP Compaq 620 (XV994PA),Celeron Dual Core T3000 1.8GHz. An older range T series CPU but should be ok, $389 from Online computers.

12.1" Viewsonic ViewBook VNB120 White, Dual Core SU2300 (don't know much about these CPUs), from Online computers. Although this is 12" LCD (1280x800 (WXGA) this may be the size some people like.

32 bit... Umart has the intel version for $500..

I use an eeepc... is also very good.. the atom CPU is very powerful for somthing that has 10 hours of battery...

My server is a dual core atom runs webserver, FTP, operates as a NAS, boink (seti@home) Vuze, video security.. without problems, honestly is as fast as my work computer (E8400 4gb ram) at doing normal officy things.

my eeepc has a 25 second from pressing the power button to using it.... as soon as u are in windows you can open firefox and start browsing no waiting for windows to load and wait around like other pc's... highly recommended if you need mobile power. also draws about 5amp from a 12v source.. recharge time takes 2 hours approx.
