Battlefield Los Angeles
Saw Battlefield Los Angeles last night. Don't expect big plot or story, but wow! If you like CONSTANT and frantic action, you are placed right in the thick of it with no boring bits. Worth a watch. 8/10

There's a plausibility problem that will prevent me from enjoying the movie - aliens wouldn't bother going to all that effort to knock us off - just use a bio-weapon instead.
In contrast District 9 didn't have any major plausibility hurdles and the multiple story lines and interesting lead character made it enjoyable for me. The best science fiction has something to say about humanity.

From the trailors it looks a beauty.

It's a positive. Combat is real, so if you are going to do a movie about it, then you should do it justice. This is well done. (They still can't resist a fireball from an M26 fragmenting grenade though )

It's a movie about alien shock-troopers full-scale global incursion. Does it need plausibility? This movie is all about action.
Perhaps these aliens have no knowledge of bio warfare where they come from..maybe they have never experienced disease...perhaps they would be vulnerable to it as well and need to occupy the planet for it's resources..who knows? Who cares? It's just a lot of fun and at the end of the day, it's just a movie.
District 9 had holes too, but I loved it. I try to focus on the positve aspects. If the movie is entertaining, I am prepared to overlook a few holes.
Skyline on the other hand..well...
Baz.

What is with that? other than the fact it looks cool I suppose.
Being an ex Grunt my self I laugh everytime I see a 'movie' frag gernade go off.
Been wondering if this flick is worth a watch, might have to go for a looksy.

I'm not criticising other peoples tastes but I've developed a low tolerance for shallow hollywood churn; still I thought I should check what my favorite film critic, David Stratton, had to say (1 star): http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news...-1226022032396
It makes movie watching less of a minefield if you can find a film critic you identify with. Still I don't mind the occasional shallow hollywood flick if it's bad enough to almost reach cult status - Starship Troopers was kinda fun, with a few whiskeys .

i, too, usually appreciate david stratton's reviews and have found:
- if he is reviewing "art house" movies I usually take note
- but lately (last year or so) for action/blockbuster movies I have started to heed them less.
i think he is, perhaps, getting jaded.
i turn to Rotten Tomatoes and still use IMDB, where anything over 7/10 is probably worth a look see.

I cannot stand the Movie Show, they just dribble so much ****
However, I usually check what rating David gives a movie tho, as he seems to rate them about the same as I would.
hah! I have the same for IMDb, 7/10 or more and it's worth going to see.
5 to 7 is wait for DVD.
<5 is just not worth my time.

Cheesy as heck but that was deliberate and yes, I also enjoyed it enough to buy the DVD.
