Ngc3579 - Now with Sidonio

I had fitted a new FCUSB to my scope and wanted to test it out last night so I thought I could grab some time between the clouds to image with. I settled on NGC3579 and took 14x5 min with 10"SCT and f6.3 focal reducer with my QHY8 camera.
I seem to have nailed the flats as I no longer wind up with another gradient after flat subtraction that Im now happy with.
Comments welcomed - sorry about the small size but have to compress it to get it under the 200Kb limit

Thanks Peter and Paul. Glad you liked it as it was the first time I had imaged it. There are a few other nebulous regions in the area that I want to image when the weather clears.

Contrast and colour is fantastic.

Is it just me or do others get the impression of warmth from this image?

DSO's usually have a cold feel about them but for some reason this seems to be a warm image

or am I just losing it

Very nice work Allan

I must admit that one of the best things I did to improve my processing was to calibrate my monitor using the Spider3 Calibrator followed by Reading a lot about photoshop processing.
Anyway Im glad that you liked the photo and the processing.

Hi Allan. I like it too. Good processing and excellent contrast in the dark nebulous areas. Keep up the good work.

That's great, Allan! This target is my planned "first light" target for the 583 so you've given me a benchmark

The 583 will capture far more detail than the QHY8. I did this for the colour only and will add the detail later with the QSI. Just note that it was only 70 min of data and thus there is a bit of noise in the shadows.

I need the detail of the QSI when the rain stops here to boost the image up as its just an hours worth of data from the QHY8.
Im seriously thinking of the 12" GSO RC as it is claimed to have 30mm flat field diameter which would be really nice with this scope. Apparently there is a .75xfr/ff made by GSO for it which would make it a killer at f6. Love to hear your comments when you get your hands on one.

Looking good Allan and I think you'll find using an auto focuser a dream.
Are you using Focus Max with it....??
This is a god send and it's free.

Keep up the good work.

Sidonio'ed

I will try focus max as I havn't used it before - looks very interesting.
Had a go at re-processing the data and Ive lifted it a bit - see if you like the Sidonio'ed effort.

Glad you like it Peter. It's the same nebula that Troy imaged but there are so many NGC designations in the nebula it can have 7 different NGC numbers. It needs the detail from the QSI which I hope to get soon.

Glad you like the repro. The QHY8 can do a good job on nebulas.

Thanks for the heads up on the bahtinov grabber. That's two programs to have a look at and it looks like I'll have to add either Ha or luminance data from the QSI to "perk" it up.
