Sundials

G'day All,

Anyone else have pictures of sundials? These two are from a trip to Europe I took in September last year. The wall mounted dial was seen on a south facing wall of a church in Oberdiessbach, Switzerland. The columnar dial is a very unique Scottish design. The small image does not do it justice, it starts at the bottom with an ornately carved square column. This is topped by an octagonal "ball" and there are a few dials visible on the faces of the octahedron. The "ball" is topped by a truncated octagonal pyramid. What look like greenish fins dotted about it are in fact the weathered gnommons.

Anyother pics?

Peter.

Hi Volans,

I haven't got any pictures of Sundials. I have toyed with the idea of making one, haven't got aound to it yet though.

Unless you can look at it in the dark with a telescope I don't think you will find too many pictures on this forum.

Esthetically (?) I like the Scottish one in the garden setting. Though the Swiss one is more unique to me in that it is wall mounted. Thank you for posting the pictures.

Here's an excellent site for those interested in making sundials. These two are accurate for Brisbane and Canberra.
