Before you leave....
Do you enjoy all things astronomical?
Do you enjoy talking about astronomy equipment?
Do you enjoy reading about others astronomical exploits?
Do you enjoy sharing your astronomical knowledge?
Have you learned anything new about your hobby in IIS?
Have you benefited from other member’ posts on IIS?
You can select as many or as few questions that apply - or even all if that is the case.

If answers to these poll questions are mostly “Yes”, then it suggests that we have a lot more in common than the last few days seem to indicate. So, whilst we struggle through the divisiveness of the current growing phase, let’s not forget we have a lot more in common than the few issues that lead us to differ.
So, please stay, contribute and make this a rich, fun and useful place to hang out.
Cheers
Dennis
PS - This is my first poll and I think it is set to "Public" view. Just thought I should mention this.

Reason: Now is "suggests" - was "indicates" (too strong?)

Dennis.
You champion!
I was just thinking how good it would be to hold a poll along exactly the same lines.

I came to join your forum... (after viewing and trying even some others ) because you are a diverse and colective bunch of basicly everything..
Star geeks, doubles-freeks, luna-lunatics and even maths-marvels... toos in a few astro-idiots like me and the melting pot was one that had an arroma that draws people to it...
I like groups that are not dominated by one set of astronomers...!!!
ie it's not full of image seekers, or deep space watchers or planet peepers... because it gets borrrringggg people... it about getting a holistic Astronomical life... "there is life after double stars mate.... Get over IT!!!"
We are different people, but with a commin thread.... ( everything above us and to the end of the universe to be exact)
We each have our corners and we should venture out of them too see the other side of the universe now and again.
but most of all Astronomy should be fun....
because if it's not, then the pay is !@#$ and we should not do it
I like people that banter, help, teaze and support... I like an Astronomy family.... warts and all.
so guys keep the family together, becuase I would hate to need to wander off again to find a home for my Astronomy Quest.
Tony

Great thread Dennis. Us astro-cobbers must stick together if we are to take over the world
Seriously, lets not let a bit of squabbling ruin things.

If intelligent, organised life on this planet can not be found in an astronomical community, where else is it likely to be encountered!
Pleasure to be here, but bezerkernerd must go.

"hope you mean leave the thread"
I ticked all the boxes alsonot sure whats been going on have not really been on here for well over a week or so
I live in Leeds UK I would have loved to have come to the star camp but that was impossible due to fianances
I am sure you will all benefit greatly from the camp my earliest one here that I will attend is in March hopefully not much cold about then and less than an hour by car
we have several good spacey type forums here in the North and they all work because they have real people on them with differing views from time to time but what makes things work is the ability to be able to agree to disagree
I mean whatever your beliefs its not going to stop the world turning is it?
oh good we will all get some good viewing times then
btw if ever anyone whats to come over here to gaze you will be more than welcome to share our little house (and I mean little)
well I guess its about time to go now I don,t know how much longer the starcamp is still active for maybe you are all packing up and on your ways home
so

Hello, Martyn
The poll was written in a moment of panic. Over the Lostock camp weekend, it seemed that the generally healthy balance between the stock, easy going posts and the “I’m hurting” and “this is a problem” posts had become disproportionate. I attempted, albeit simplistically, to show that based on our shared love and passion for astronomy, we had far more in common when compared to the differences feeding the storm of “problem” posts.
I felt that some perspective had been temporarily lost because some of the emotions running through the posts had the energy and intensity I would normally reserve for the day a mad axe man bashes down my door and I need to defend my family. I write of course with the luxury of not having been personally affected or hurt by the issues being discussed.
The poll is not passing judgement, because I haven’t walked a mile in the shoes of those that are hurting. Nor does it take sides because I do not know the people, the history, the situations, etc. For now, I believe the poll may have served its purpose and would be happy for the admin team to close it, ‘cos I’m completely baffled and don’t know how to do it myself.
Please accept my apologies for the drivel and waffle if this is not your cup of tea.
Dennis
PS - I used to live in Cookridge, North Leeds.

No need to close it in my opinion Dennis.
In light of the dribble that had been going on it was a breath of fresh air.

Good poll Dennis.
I said yes to all That's why I'm here. Lets hope now we can get on with all the "yes" stuff and put behind us all that rubbish that has gone on in the last few day's forever.

Leave it open and make it a sticky i says.. for my 2cents..
Every team has its ups and downs, but there commong goals is what keep them together. Without goals, without common ground, without rules there can be no team.
Dennis what you have asked re-aserts why we are here. Lets agree to disagree, and see it through what ever comes.
