PHD unable to connec to KWIQ Autoguider

Hi all,

I am facing problem getting KWIQ autoguider to work with PHD. Had the same problem on 2 laptop, one Win7 and one Win98.

a. Followed the software and driver installation guide, i.e. installed latest ASCOM Platform, QHY5 System driver, QHY5 ASCOM driver and PHD version 1.12.0
b. QHY5 is working fine with QGVideo - Camera is good.
c. Followed PHD Guiding step:
  • Select Mount from PHD Guiding Main menu - "On Camera"
  • Click Camera Icon, selected ASCOM v5 camera and Ok
  • Select CMOS QHY5 camera, set camera gain - ok
  • Click ok on "ASCOM Camera Chooser" - Error Message - Problem Connecting to Camera.
Hope to get some advice from this forum. Thanks in advance.

Alfred

& Alfred.

sorry I don't know the camera, hopefully someone here will be able to help you with your problem. What is KWIQ and how does it relate to the QHY5?

Paul, KW supply a QHY5 as the standard camera for their guider.

Alfred, have you asked on the Y! Stark group? Is there a reason you want to use ASCOM? Can't you use the QHY drivers? KW have those on their web site.

Alfred, have you tried connecting the camera without ASCOM, just connect the camera to the mount.

Problem connecting QHY5 camera to PHD

Thanks Paul and all for your replies. I have tried to connect the camera directly (i.e. CMOS QHY5 Camera). Unfortunately PHD was not able to connect to it. I will get hold of another computer and start the installation all over again. I will share my results with you guys.

Alfred.

Hi,

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers and programs using the Guider Manual found at:
https://www.all-startelescope.com/sa...ff882d1a511576

It works for Win 98 machine not Win 7.

I have searched several forums but still didn't find a workable solution for Win7. Will post it if I find it.

Cheers.

Alfred

Alfred, QHYCCD has win 7 certified 32/64 drivers on their page for the QHY5.

Info on this here.

Resolved, QHY5 connects to PHD in Win 7

Thanks to Brendan and those who have helped with their suggestions. It has encouraged me to pursue the solution.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers. Like what Brendan said, I found that only drivers from qhyccd.com work. For those who have same difficulty like me may want to use the drivers from:
http://qhyccd.com/download.html

Take note to download the QHY5 update driver as well. And you must also use the QHY5 ASCOM driver.

Cheers.

Alfred

Just a bit of an update on QHY5 drivers.

I believe QHY has shifted all their camera drivers to ASCOM, so no new driver for standalone applications for PHD etc...use the ASCOM driver to connect instead.

QHY has done this as there is more scope for ASCOM compatibility and support than rewriting separate application different variants of guide software.

I just shifted to a netbook for running PHD etc and found I cannot connect to my "CCD Labs Q Guider"....for the above reasons...they only release ASCOM drivers from now on. Yet my old lappy still runs the older QHY CCD Labs Q Guider connection that was installed years ago.

I've yet to try the ASCOM driver (on the new lappy) ...but can get a working connection (in PHD)..so I guess it works.

Just a heads up to others!
