Fabulous sharpness & detail you are getting from a 10" mirror.
Well done to a new Aussie.

Very nice John,

That combo sure churns out some spectacular shots.

PS Dave, the SPX 350 is a 14" mirror....

Always a pleasure to view these fantastic images.

Cheers

Chris

Another brilliant data set there John,

I thought I had commented on all of your images but missed this one.
I think there is some Karma going on here John, SE Queensland has been through such a horrendous time, reckon it is just great that the weather is now producing such stunning conditions to image in, especially with this great storm still raging across the planet.

Exceedingly well done.
Regards
Trevor

Nice John,
Almost the same time as my February 19, 2011 image.
The same 'spoke spot' is in both our images, Left ring plane.

Thanks everyone, we now have storms and thunder crashing down with the house shaking.

Asimov (John) got me worried saying seeing had been mediocre where he was for several years so was regretting the move here - not any more!

I upgraded from an economy 10inch to a high class 14inch but with more weight and have not regretted it as the extra reach is obvious when the skies allow.

Not sure when the next clear sky is but no doubt the good seeing will end at some point so heres hoping it doesn't end soon.

John.

Sorry to hear about the house shaking John but I reckon we are all glad that you came to OZ and brought that scope with you. The quality of your work is a real pleasure to see and I hope you get a fair bit more of that type of very good seeing.

Regards
Trevor

Excellent work, John...and welcome to Oz. I enjoyed your image with the wealth of detail presented and I can see the planet through the Cassini division. I guess you've had your fair share of storms now - both up there and down here!

Keep up the good work and clear skies....eventually.

Russ

There's not many left in QLD that do what we do

I've been 'averaging out' conditions in your neck of the woods, & mine & all I can work out is 'it's the luck of the draw' Considering I haven't seen anything remotely like your seeing since november last year, I'm obviously living in the wrong area of QLD. I'd love to be about 100KM further inland. That's where the good seeing seems to be happening. Living right on the coast is very detrimental to conditions, for me at least.

Get it while the going's good John

Yet another superb image John. You are having the luck with the seeing up your way. Not been great here for some time now. Excellent detail in your image and a lovely image scale. Would like some thing like this myself to mark the season. Still plenty of time though.

Thanks again,

Garrillaga that 20inch mirror from OO sound wonderful, they make mirrors to 1/10 wavefront measured at 632.8nm (measured with Zygo interf equipment), but a 20inch may be too difficult to make to that standard so even if it is 1/6 wvfrt it will still perform brilliantly.

OO will make mirrors to any standard it just might cost too much to be worthwhile and at 20inches improvement may not be noticable. They give a interferemeter report with the mirror and Hilux coating is 97% at 550nm and 95% at 656nm and will really lift a 20inch Newt's power.

You can email John and Barry at OO as they usually answer all there emails.

Regards, John.
