Observatories lost in bushfires

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet but the has been a few home observatories lost in the Grampians bushfires.

I was speak to a guy from the area yesterday and he said that his friends observatory had been destroyed and his had almost been bulldosed ahead of the fire front. The driver said "is this a toy house?" or something like that, and the owner said no it's an observatory and there's X number of tons of concrete and steel. The driver then decided to drive around the obsveratory instead of over it, for fear on wrecking his doser.

Imagine some bulldoser guy drivering onto site and saying that everythings got to go. As if the fire wasn't enough of a threat. But it has to be done I guess.

My condolences to anyone that has lost any property or friends, family or livestock (60,000 sheep so far and a lot of burnt native animals like koalas).

Smoke is everywhere down here on peninsula and the ground shows sunlight is very deep orange tint, so up there it must be horrible.

It's so dam hot too.

not.

The saddest part is that one of these fires was deliberatly lit.

If someone did that to me, he would be missing all his front teeth and some of his back. ****** minded tactics. You only need to doz the trees not the houses and buildings.

Yeah, there was a deliberatly lit fire near my dads house in Warburton yesterday that caused a bit of a scare. Luckerly they got it undercontrol and put it out before today. My friends up at the grampions (Wartook) have had to evacuate to a neighbours block, whos house is in a cleared paddock. My friends house is surrounded by native bush (almost up to the door) and the fire is only 1km away. Hopefully the fire will avoid thier house.

There is a great place we stayed at last year in Wartook Rise, sleeps 22 people, I hope that does not burn down. I was thinking it would be a good spot for a astro camp with friends later in the year.

I hate arsonists, especially those that get their jollies from lighting bush fires. Personally, I think those sort of people should be locked away forever. And; if I ever catch anyone lighting a fire in the scrub, I will be tossing them in the fire, just so they get their just desserts.

Also, cigarette butts thrown out of windows into dry grass. Wish I had a roo bar sometimes they'd get it up the but.
And when you tell them off they get upset like throwing buts out of the window is OK.

You know I smoke, but would not soil my car with cigarette smoke. People that toss butt, just think that tossing the butt is going to stop the stench in their car. Trouble is the smoke is already in the car. So butt tossers must be treated the same way.

I wonder if the firefighters eat spam while fighting the fires?

I reckon there has been a fire lit in this place today, and the smoke might never settle.
