Some pictures from the Saturday before last. Ive got a long way to go...

Hi Guys

I never really post any astro pics because, well, they sucked. My photo shop skills are non existent, until I spent a couple of days watching youtube videos on processing astro photos.

My skills are still very very basic but they have come on leaps and bounds. My biggest problem was always colour correction as I use a cls filter. Now that i have that sorted out it's made things a lot easier, that and I think i'm actully have the settings sorted out in deepsky stacker now.

Anyway, here are some pictures I took the other night. It was saturday and the temp ourside was 33 deg. So lots of noise. The sensor temp was 49 deg

Images take with 5D MKII unmodded and an orion 102 refractor. Phd guided and 5d run with Backyard eos (very niffty little program). All of them are cropped so the noise is blown up as well. Iso 400.

Cores are a little blown, and roseta is actually from last year and take with a 1000D unmoded 8"newt. Need to get a field flattener.

Thats about all the excuses I can think of right now, lol.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks

unless you have a cooled DSLR you are at a loss for summer imaging - noise wise.

as for the other images i too have problems with the colour balace with the cls filter - havent found a cure for that.

the lagoon neb needs to be cropped more to remove the overlapping data. your doing well just need to practice a bit more - i am still learning.

big tip - dont push past what data you actually have - you start to see mottling you have gone too far

For such non existant skills you haven't done to bad at all. Things can be improved but that comes with both confidence and experience.
Great start to your imaging.
Well done.

Congrats on your first post in the Deep Space section! Some good tips here already and I have to agree - not bad for beginners' skills!

I hope you don't mind, I took your Orion shot and did a quick clean up (don't mind my colors, they're a bit funky...). I wanted to show you your data is really nice (even the heavily compressed JPEG) with plenty of detail - learning about processing to make the most of it is really going to be worth your while!

Hope to see many more posts in the future.

Well I think you're selling yourself way too short. The data is excellent so you're 99% there. Processing takes a bit longer to master and is an on-going learning curve. Really nice work with huge potential. Keep at it.

Thanks guys.

I've never really bothered with photoshop until now because I've never really had my rig sorted out and guiding properly. It's been a long process, but now that I have it sorted I'm spending my time learning the in's and outs of processing.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and Ivo thanks for cleaning the image up for me, it's good to see that there is a lot more detail to tweak out.

Thanks
