Balancing my Dob...

Hi,

I just thought I'd post a couple of pics, I've finally gotten around to sorting out the balance issues of my 8" collapsible skywatcher....very top heavy with a telrad and eyepieces....

I bought 3 snapper sinkers at Kmart, $3.00 each, and being lead they were easily hammered into a rough shape and covered in tape. Each sinker weighs 400g.

Attached to the mirror cell with velcro, which has an adhesive back so easy to attach to mirror cell and sinkers...approx. $5.00

I only need 2 sinkers to balance with eyepiece + telextender, so I have a spare sinker in case I get a weighty eyepiece. As the spare is 400g, I might get a lighter sinker, depending on which wideview eyepiece I get...

It's pretty rough and ready, but the velcro seems to hold the sinkers quite well, and it all came in at a pretty good price......

Stephen

Great idea Stephen!!!
I have also seen magnetised weighted wraps, but they cost a few more $$$.
